Program Outcomes

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery:
At the end of the program, students should be able to:
PO1   Demonstrate knowledge of basic sciences relevant to the practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery
PO2   To acquire knowledge and understanding of etiology, pathophysiology and diagnosis, appropriate treatment planning of various oral and maxillofacial surgical problems
PO3   Record case history, perform clinical examination, order essential investigations and interpret them to arrive at a final diagnosis and plan the treatment and management of oral and maxillofacial problems.
PO4   Formulate an evidence-based and cost-effective treatment plan in collaboration with the patient after providing appropriate information and obtaining an informed consent.  Safeguard the privacy, confidentiality of the patient and the data obtained from them. Respect the patient’s right to information and right to seek a second opinion.
PO5   Practise personal hygiene, asepsis, sterilization, prevention of cross infection and safe disposal of hospital waste keeping in view of the high prevalence of hepatitis, HIV and other transmissible diseases
PO6   Apply general surgical principles to pre and post-surgical management particularly evaluation, post surgical care, fluids and electrolyte management, blood transfusion and post surgical pain management.
PO7   To deliver appropriate surgical and medical management of infections, trauma, pathologies and deformities of human jaws and associated oral structures by interaction with other dental, medical and allied disciplines.
PO8   Develop ability to teach undergraduate students and communicate with professional colleagues.
PO9   Develop the ability to function as an effective team member / leader of a multi professional oral and maxillofacial surgical team.
PO10   To contribute to the national and regional health scenario for conditions relevant to the specialty of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery irrespective of social status, caste, creed or religion of the patient.
PO11   Demonstrate respect for human values, human rights and social responsibilities.

Public Health Dentistry:
The Postgraduate students should be able to,
PO1   To apply knowledge of basic sciences regarding etiology, diagnosis and management of the prevention, promotion and treatment of all the oral conditions at the individual and community level.
PO2   Identify social, economic, environmental and emotional determinants in a given individual patient or a community for the purpose of planning and execution of Community Oral Health Program.
PO3   Conduct Oral Health Surveys in order to identify all the oral health problems affecting the community and find solutions using multi – disciplinary approach.
PO4   To act as a consultant in community Oral Health, teach, guide and take part in research (both basic and clinical).
PO5   Develop, Implement and Evaluate systems of care that impact oral health.
PO6   Demonstrate ethical decision-making in the practice of dental public health.
PO7   Design surveillance systems to measure oral health status and its determinants.
PO8   Lead collaborations on oral and public health issues.
PO9   Advocate for public health policy, legislation, and regulations to protect and promote the community’s oral health, and overall health.
PO10   Integrate the social determinants of health into dental public health practice.

Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics:
PO1   Demonstrate an understanding of basic sciences as relevant to conservative/restorative dentistry and      Endodontics.  
PO2   Perform a physical and oral examination of the patient, identify normal and abnormal functioning of various systems of the body, take proper chair side history, examine the patient and perform medical and dental diagnostic  procedures; as well as perform relevant tests and interpret them to come to a reasonable diagnosis about the dental condition.  
PO3   Diagnose and recognize conditions that may require multidisciplinary approach or a clinical situation outside the realm of the specialty, which he or she should be able to recognize and refer to an appropriate specialist.
PO4   Perform infection control measures in the dental clinical environment and laboratories.
PO5   Adopt ethical principles in all aspects of restorative and contemporary Endodontics including non-surgical and surgical Endodontics.
PO6   Perform all levels of restorative work including Aesthetic procedures and treatment of complicated restorative procedures.
PO7   Describe and manage etiology, pathophysiology, periapical diagnosis and management of common endodontic situations that will include contemporary management of trauma and pulpal pathosis including endodontic-periodontic considerations.
PO8   Diagnose, plan and execute challenging clinical cases requiring comprehensive management strategies using contemporary materials and techniques in the specialty of conservative dentistry and endodontics.
PO9   Demonstrate communication skills in particular to explain various options available management and to obtain a true informed consent from the patient.
PO10  Apply moral and ethical standards while carrying on human or animal research.

Oral Pathology:
PO1   Apply the basic knowledge of both general and oral pathology in dealing with the nature of oral diseases, their causes, processes and effects
PO2   Perform routine histopathological evaluation of specimens relating to oral and perioral tissues, including principles of histochemistry, Immunochemistry, applied and theoretical biochemical basis of histochemistry
PO3   Plan and administer the routine diagnostic procedures including hematological, cytological,  microbiological, Immunological and ultrastructural investigations
PO4   Demonstrate the current research methodology, collection and interpretation of data, the ability to carry out research projects on clinical and or epidemiological aspects
PO5   Write scientific papers and Update knowledge on current databases, automated data retrieval systems and referencing
PO6   Demonstrate the scientific data pertaining to the field and present it in conferences both as poster and verbal presentations and take part in group discussions
PO7   Recognize the pathology of oral tissues as well as the relation of local pathologic and clinical findings to systemic conditions
PO8   Apply basic oral microbiology and their relationship to various branches of dentistry affecting hard and soft tissues
PO9   Describe the basics in Forensic Odontology and ability to apply it in medicolegal issues
PO10   Demonstrate and practice integrity, responsibility, respect and selflessness
PO11   Examine and interpret gross tissue specimens
PO12   Interpret pathologic cellular change microscopically and group diseases of similar histologic patterns in order to arrive at a differential diagnosis and ultimately to a final diagnosis
PO13   Provide a  pathology report with final diagnosis and communicate effectively about it with the contributing clinician
PO14   Read, interpret, and critically evaluate the oral and maxillofacial pathology literature
PO15   Communicate effectively and sensitively with patients, care-givers, colleagues, clinicians, surgeons and the public in a manner that will improve health care outcomes

Paedodontics:
PO1   Help children to grow up with good oral health and prepare them to be good citizen of tommarrow   
PO2   Establish a positive attitude towards oral health.     
PO3   Practice the principles of prevention and preventive dentistry right from birth to adolescence.        
PO4   Explain and appraise the parents/ care givers in regards to various treatment modalities including different facets of preventive dentistry.     
PO5   Record and evaluate proper clinical history, examine the child patient, perform the diagnostic procedure, correlate and interpret them to arrive at a reasonable diagnosis and formulate an individualized treatment plan for that particular child.     
PO6   To predict and identify developing malocclusion and design preventive and interceptive statergies to prevent mallocclusion     
PO7   Develop adequate skills to prevent, repair and restore the loss of tooth structure in order to maintain harmony between both the hard and soft tissues of the oral cavity.     
PO8   Identify and initiate treatment in children with special health care needs which are tailored to their individual requirements and conditions.     
PO9   Develop an attitude to adopt ethical principles in all aspects of pediatric dental practice.     
PO10   Propose treatment care irrespective of the social status, caste, creed and the religion of the patients.     
PO11   Communicate clinical Knowledge and experience with professional colleagues.     
PO12   Adopt advanced techniques and trends in pediatric dentistry through current research and evidence based.     
PO13   Respect child patients rights and privileges including their right to information and prevent indetify and report child abuse and neglect                   
PO14   Develop the attitude to seek an opinion from allied medical and dental specialties as and when required.     
    
Periodontics:
PO1   Describe the biology and pathology of the periodontium as well as the principles of bone biology and wound healing.     
PO2   Describe relevant surgical head and neck anatomy.     
PO3   Collect, organise, analyse, interpret and present clinical data related to the examination of periodontal tissues.                      
PO4   Analyse occlusal factors in the initiation and progression of periodontal disease.     
PO5   Collect, organize, analyse, interpret and present clinical data related to the assessment of sites planned for implant placement.     
PO6   Utilize the appropriate diagnostic techniques relevant to periodontal and implant treatment.     
PO7   Establish a prognosis for the outcomes of periodontal and implant treatments    
PO8   Demonstrate competence in non-surgical and surgical management of periodontal defects, regenerative    techniques, mucogingival procedures.      
PO9   Demonstrate Knowledge of managing medical emergencies in the dental clinic.     
PO10   Demonstrate Knowledge to develop a treatment plan for medically compromised patients.     
PO11   Perform restoration driven implant placement based on the pre-operative planning.     
PO12   Perform augmentation procedures prior to implant placement by using the appropriate material and techniques    
PO13   Develop and implement recall and evaluate strategies following periodontal treatment and supportive maintenance therapy.     
PO14   Communicate effectively with other disciplines in treatment planning and in treatment sequencing.     
PO15   Conduct, present and publish research projects based on national and global needs    
PO16   Teach in both didactic and clinical areas of undergraduate periodontics.     
PO17   Demonstrate appropriate professional attitudes and behaviour in dealing with staff members and helping personnel.     
PO18   Describe normal and abnormal human structure, development, function and behaviour that is relevant to the practice of Dentistry.     
    
Orthodontics:    
At the end of the program, post graduates will be able to...
PO1   Describe basic sciences relevant to the practice of Orthodontics and explain the dynamic interaction of biologic processes and mechanical forces acting on the stomatognathic system during orthodontic treatment
PO2   Describe etiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment planning of various Orthodontic problems and Orofacial deformities.
PO3   Know in detail about the infection control, prevention of cross infection and safe disposal of hospital waste.
PO4   To obtain proper clinical history, methodical examination of the patient, perform essential diagnostic procedures, and interpret them and arrive at a reasonable diagnosis about the Dento-facial deformities.
PO5   To be competent to fabricate and manage various orthodontic appliances.
PO6   Develop an attitude to adopt ethical principles in all aspects of Orthodontic practice, Professional honesty and integrity are to be fostered
PO7   Willingness to adopt, after a critical assessment, new methods and techniques of orthodontic management developed from time to time based on scientific research, which are in the best interest of the patient
PO8   Develop adequate communication skills particularly with the patients giving them the various options available to manage a particular Dento-facial problem and to obtain a true informed consent from them for the most appropriate treatment available at that point of time.
PO9   Develop the ability to communicate with professional colleagues, in Orthodontics or other specialties through various media like correspondence, Internet, e-video, conference, etc. to render the best possible treatment.
PO10   Carry out  research and  disseminate the results through publications in high impact indexed journals and presentations.     

Oral Medicine And Radiology:
PO1    Detailed understanding and practical implications of the applied basic sciences in dentistry
PO2    Theoretical, Clinical and practical knowledge of all oral mucosal lesions and conditions
PO3    Theoretical, Clinical and practical knowledge of skeletal involvement of maxillofacial region
PO4    Diagnostic skill in recognition of various oral and systemic diseases with radiographic and laboratory investigations and their management
PO5    Latest information of various imaging modalities of orofacial region
PO6    Research skills in handling scientific problems pertaining to oral treatment
PO7    Forensic odontology-including various radiographic methods for age estimation
PO8    Clinical and Didactic skills in encouraging younger doctors to attain learning objectives

Prosthodontics:
PO1    Demonstrate knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the oral and peri-oral tissues
PO2    Describe of the epidemiology, etiology, pathology and clinical presentation of diseases of the oral and peri-oral tissues
PO3    Elicit relevant history and reform appropriate clinical examinations needed to evaluate the oral and related medical conditions for all patients
PO4    Implement clinical solutions in response to prosthodontic clinical problems by developing an evidence-based treatment plan and taking a holistic approach to solving problems and designing treatment plans
PO5    Apply knowledge of biomaterial science to provide and tailor safe, effective prosthodontic solutions to clients
PO6    Demonstrate the ability to critically assess scientific papers and available evidence such as guidelines and apply it into clinical practice
PO7    Demonstrate  communication skills, with patients and other professionals in clinical and professional settings
PO8    Function as an effective team leader of a multi-professional team practicing Prosthodontics
PO9    Demonstrate a respect for human values, human rights and social responsibilities
